Jane has been involved in the New Zealand education system for 25 years as a primary school teacher and school principal. Jane has always been passionate about providing opportunities to support struggling learners to succeed academically by working with their individual learning styles.
Jane's ability to see the big picture and build strong effective educational connections with students, parents and teachers lead to her being seconded as a member of the Canterbury University’s School Leadership and Management Advisory team.
Her interest in learning difficulties began with specialist tutoring of students with dyslexia and dyspraxia in Europe and continued as a major focus within her classroom teaching practise. After training to become a Davis Dyslexia Facilitator and Davis Learning Strategies workshop presenter and school mentor, Jane made the decision to leave her teaching principal position and focus solely on supporting those with dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and dyscalculia to succeed in life.
During her time as Teaching Principal at Waihao Downs School, Jane worked with a dynamic team to embed the Davis Learning Strategies within the school. DLS proved to be the missing piece of the puzzle in unlocking children’s learning. She then went on sabbatical to compile and publish an Action Research project on the *Impact that the Davis Learning Strategies have in New Zealand Schools 2018.
What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is often thought of as a literacy problem, but is not limited to only this area. Other difficulties that can adversely affect a person's life include numeracy, co-ordination, organisational skills, time management and auditory processing. Dyslexia is a different way of thinking that involves using pictures as a faster way of solving life's puzzles.
Jane offers several different programmes to suit both children's and adult's development through the Davis® Dyslexia Programmes. Jane is a Davis® Dyslexia Facilitator and a
Davis® Learning Strategies Presenter and School Mentor. Davis Learning Strategies workshops and mentoring are also available for teachers and schools.
